Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School is a magnet for leadership and technology. Being a magnet in our county means that students from the entire county/ district can apply to attend and not just those that live in the surrounding neighborhood. Our leadership magnet focus is centered on the Covey principles and several unique leadership courses. We have been a technology magnet since the school opened in 1997. Several federal grants have given us the newest technology equipment but it is our faculty and the use of technology that has given us the latest cutting edge. The school is located in our state's capital Raleigh, NC and has a little over 1600 students grades 9-12 (14-18 years old). For more information about SRMHS, visit the school web-site.
	SRMHS has one of the largest and most diverse art departments in our district with 5 art teachers and over 20 art electives from which to choose. We teach Art I, II, III, and IV (as well as honors courses for III and IV) as well as specialized electives such as Sculpture/ Ceramics, Printmaking/ Textiles, Painting, Art History, and AP Art History. Because we are a technology magnet, we also offer a huge variety of digital arts courses including broadcasting, web design, animation, computer graphics, digital photography, and much more. Our class periods about 80 minutes long and last for a semester (18 weeks with a two week break at mid-term).
Another aspect of our art department is that our art teachers are professional artists who are active advocates and participants in our local art community. To the right, Mrs. Aker and Mrs. Harrell are seen busily working on their street painting at the Raleigh Street Painting Festival. Our high school is about a mile away from Moore Square Art District with over 50 artist studios and galleries, several colleges and universities, and our state's Art Museum. There are so many opportunities for our students to participate in the local art community both within the school day and extracurricular activities.

We have lots of opportunities for SRMHS students to be involved in art outside of the normal class period including National Art Honor Society (NAHS) and the Digital Arts Career Focused Learning Community (DA CFLC).
